Burlington County Military Affairs Committee

The Military Affairs Committee was established by the Burlington County Freeholders on June 10, 1987. The purpose and objective is to act as a liaison between county based military commanders and the civilian community to promote, maintain and foster a harmonious and mutual understanding of each other's missions and issues to prevent problems. Recognizing that the bases represent a major economic impact on our county and the region, it is imperative the civilian population understand and support the men and women of our military while they are in our community. The move to establish the first tri-service joint base in the country by bringing together Fort Dix, McGuire Air Force Base and Lakehurst Naval Air Station presents an opportunity for even more positive impact on our communities. Our membership can have a significant positive impact in assisting our service men and women know that they appreciated by supporting them and their families. Membership is open to any and all who individually and collectively share the common bond of our purpose. The Executive Board presently consists of 21 members elected from the general membership of which five members serve as Officers. The Officers have general supervision of committee affairs including, but not limited to, fund raising projects and developing a working budget.

Some of the major activities in the past few years have been to help our young military personnel in times of financial or personal needs. We sponsor Military Appreciation Dinners and Pizza Parties for troops being deployed or returning from duty abroad. We have arranged visits by Congressional Medal of Honor recipients to visit with and eat with the troops. Many of our members act as Honorary Commanders to various units on the bases. The committee helps to keep a sense of family alive by issuing phone cards to troops deployed throughout the world so that they may call home and hear from love ones. We provide gifts of bicycles and helmets to dependent children of military personnel and provide other silent partnerships with the leaders of Fort Dix and McGuire Air Force Base. We have annual fund raising events and provide trips to sporting events and social events as well as visits to military bases and service academies. We invite you to join us and get to meet some of the finest young men and women in the world who are serving in our military.
